What kind of work is done by the IT professional?
IT professionals can work on a wide range of things, including but not limited to: coding for security system/programs.. PowerShell programming on APIs, pages and services for a system. IT Support Technician works with the general public, by answering support tickets and phone calls as well as troubleshooting. Network operation analyst assists users with network issues, as well as restoring connections in IP addresses/websites, writing scripts/ projects to ensure reliability in website connections. Some work on automated projects to make an application or task easier to compute. Software engineers code and work on current or new projects/ideas.
What kind of people does the IT professional interact with? Are they other IT professionals? Clients? Investors? The general public?
IT professionals with different titles work on different components of a firm’s system, cloud security engineers, tooling and/or automation developer and infrastructure analyst can all work in the same firm but on different tasks. Helpdesk and tech support work with the general public, answering tickets and emails to help other members in the facilities or even the public. For board meetings they work with clients and other co-workers by discussing and brainstorming ideas and projects to continue or work on.
Where does the IT professional spend most of their time?
People in the field of cyber security or security systems/programs tend to spend most of the time checking log entries to look for vulnerabilities and threats to prevent. Support technicians tend to spend most of their time answering tickets, looking at emails and answering phone calls. For software engineers it is mainly coding - working on projects or new ideas. Most of this is done in an office, working on a computer/laptop and sometimes in meetings. During down time they will look over emails and messages to see the latest updates and other important information.
What aspect of their position is the most challenging?
The most challenging aspect of an IT professional’s position differs according to their role that they have. However, most can agree that figuring out ways to approach an issue or project as well as keeping the team on track would be quite challenging. IT professionals also have to research on how to resolve an issue that tends to be out of the scope of their training, which can be very time consuming. For big projects they will have to work overtime or continue to work at home in order to get it done before the deadline.
